Promoting your course

You can use the Class Descriptions app in One.IU to promote your course.

Textbook orders

You must place book orders several months before the start of classes in order for them to arrive on time.

Course websites

The communications team can provide you with a WordPress-based website template.

Permission to enroll

Instructors control their classrooms and so can grant permission to students who have not met prerequisites to enroll in their course “by exception.”

Enrollment waitlist

Learn the procedures a student must follow to enroll in your class via a waitlist.

Syllabus

Your syllabus represents your plan for the course and sets your standards and expectations.

Undergraduate teaching assistants

Some faculty use research accounts to support hourly student work. If any of that work includes involvement with classes you're teaching, please consult the UTA policy.

Managing your class on Canvas

Canvas is IU's learning management system.

Office hours

Each faculty member is expected to be accessible for individual student conferences throughout the semester.

Faculty attendance

If you cannot make it to class, you should make every effort to let your students know the situation or arrange for a substitute.

Visiting professionals

Many courses benefit from the occasional guest lecturer. You must notify the school of all visiting professionals.

The Walter Center for Career Achievement has resources for faculty members to connect with their office.

Confidentiality

Under federal and state law, student academic records are confidential.

Sexual misconduct/ discrimination

All faculty members and instructors are considered responsible employees under Title IX.

Academic misconduct

Academic misconduct includes, but is not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, fabrication and violation of course rules.

Mental health resources

If you have concerns about a student’s mental health, you can refer them to the Health Center’s Counseling and Psychological Services.
