Sending mass emails

As a member of The Media School community, you are subscribed to at least one Media School listserv. Listservs allow faculty and staff to send one email to an entire group.

The listservs are managed by the communications team. You have the ability to email the listserv for any group you're a part of (e.g., all faculty can email the faculty listserv), but you only have access to listservs for groups you're not a part of if it's necessary for your job.

You cannot unsubscribe from your listserv — this is how The Media School communicates important updates, such as policies, deadlines and human resources information.

How to use the listservs

To email a listserv, send your message to one of these addresses:

• Full-time faculty: tmsfaculty-l@list.indiana.edu
• Cinema and Media Studies faculty: cms-fac-l@list.indiana.edu 
• Journalism faculty: journalism-faculty-l@list.indiana.edu 
• Emeriti faculty: mediaschoolemeriti-l@list.indiana.edu 
• Adjuncts and instructors: tmsadjunct-l@list.indiana.edu
• Staff: tmsstaff-l@list.indiana.edu
• Undergraduate students: tmsundergrad-l@list.indiana.edu
• Graduate students: tmsgrad-l@list.indiana.edu 

After you send your message, you must confirm it. Within a couple minutes, you'll receive an email from the address list@list.indiana.edu. The email will contain instructions on how to confirm your message.

Once you follow those instructions, your message will be sent to the list.

Keep in mind

Please limit your email to school and academic matters. Use this list as a professional communication tool. Post to the list judiciously. No one wants dozens of emails per day that are not relevant to our mission at the school.

Remember that when you hit “reply,” your email may be sent to the entire list. Develop a habit of looking at the “To” line before you hit reply. Depending on how the email comes in, you could reply to the whole list or to just one person.

Attachments

IU email does not allow messages using IU List to be greater than 10MB in size, so  posts with hefty attachments may bounce. If you need to distribute a large file, you can upload it to a cloud service and then email a link to the file.
