The Institute for Communication Research is asking instructors to consider offering extra credit for students to participate as research subjects this semester.
One of the services the ICR provides is the administration of a research subject pool for scholars conducting research requiring participants. This pool is generated by inviting nstructors each semester to consider offering extra credit for students who want to participate in faculty/graduate student research.
If you would like to offer extra credit for student participation, email Rob Potter or Sharon Mayell with the following details:
- Class number or name
- How much the research participation is worth in your class (e.g., worth 2 points out of a total 100 points possible)
- What alternative you’ll offer for the same amount of credit, if students don’t want to participate in a research study (This alternative is required by the IRB to ensure those not wanting to participate have an equal opportunity to earn extra credit. Rob Potter can provide examples.)
- Whether you want to pre-approve the study recruiting from your class (e.g., if you would like the choice to match studies with your course content)
- Any other preferences you have, such as wanting recruitment to occur during a certain time in the semester
