The Media School is seeking field assistants for two experiential learning trips during spring break 2022. Field assistants help the trip leader with organizing and managing the trip, keeping track of students, serving as a resource for students and dealing with emergencies. Field assistants’ expenses are covered by The Media School.
The Media School is looking for a field assistant for each of the following trips:
Introduces students to the work of influential journalist and Indiana native Ernie Pyle, following his career as a "vagabond reporter" traveling across the world to becoming one of the most widely read correspondents of World War II.
Travel to Washington, D.C.
Sunday, March 13 to Friday, March 18
Instructor: Bonnie Layton
Investigates the relationship between mediated communication and environmental attitudes and behaviors. The course is focused on social science research about the issue, the history and trajectory of environmental communication in the U.S. and public opinion about it. Students also have the opportunity to do creative media projects about the topic. Students learn how national parks are managed from a communication and media perspective. Information about specific careers such as ranger or public information officer are addressed.
Travel to Mammoth Cave in Cave City, Kentucky
This trip will require the assistant to drive a university SUV from Bloomington to Cave City and back.

Faculty and staff interested in serving as a field assistant should send an email to Kristin Martindale by 5 p.m. Oct. 18. Messages should include the following information:
Trip(s) of interest. If you apply for more than one, please indicate the order of preference.
Level of familiarity with the city and/or region.
Previous travel experience.
Any other information you consider relevant to your interest in and qualifications for serving as a field assistant.
